I’m proud to report that the house was full for the jefferson county mountain biker public forum up in Golden Colorado at the cort’s and administraition building. And wow was it cool to be a mountain biker and be able to go to this first of it’s kind public forum. It was 2 hour’s of tight sceduled order of buisness, although the jcos director and staff really seem to have there heart’s into it for the mountain biker’s of jefferson county. There were 200 rider’s and mountain bike people in attendance and one sheriff in the room for those who might not be so agreeable to the order of buisness.
The first speaker was the president of comba(colorado mountain bike association)Peter Morales and his first order of buisness was to offer his position of president of comba to anyone who dare only to walk up to the podium where he stand and ask for it.Just goes to show how the comba people are weathering the storm for us mountain biker’s,so respect for Peter and comba are a priority for any mountain biker.Peter then went on to state the order of buisness for the next 2 hour’s and introduced the jcos director and staff.Enforcment issues, thought’s on the latest trail maintenance, and rider’s idea’s were to be heard by the jcos, comba, and the mountain bike community in jefferson County.
The first order of buisness to come to the surface by the mountain biker’s themselve’s were enforcement issue’s involving trail ticket’s that get handed out to mountain biker’s for failure to adhere to the trail enforcement.Other mountain biker’s were there to express there heart felt passion for the sport that is growing by leap’s and bound’s and how mountain biking is more than just somthing we mounain biker’s enjoy, but somthing we live, breath, and sleep. There were other thought’s and idea’s from the mountain bike community that were thoughtful, although it didnt seem like anyone wanted to pay cash in order to ride an open space trail in jefferson county on the front range of colorado in order to keep peace on the trail’s.
Like I said up above, the jcos director and staff really seem to have there heart’s into the mountain bike community, they were not only all ear’s and interested to hear the mountain bike community out, they brought there own side of the coin by prepairing and showing numerous picture slide show’s,video’s,lecture’s on the situation of trail maintenace, multi use trail’s,enforcement issue’s,and detailed explanation’s of just how all these issue’s are dealt with inside the jefferson county open space administration.
All went well and smooth for the 2 hour time slot, some mountain biker’s were at odd’s with getting ticket’s on the trail when they really thought they were doing what they were supposed to be doing in a situation that required attention to the enforcement rule’s.The jcos listend to there complaint and I feel that these particular people will be rectified or at least be used as a future example of how to enforce the rule’s of the trail more justfiably.Another issue at hand for mountain biker’s is the need for biker only trail’s,mountain biker’s do have some of there own trail’s but wouldnt it be better if we had a few reallly good trail’s to our selve’s.We all know the hiker’s like to have trail’s to themselve’s for uninterupted tranquility, and we mountain biker’s know how good it feel’s to keep pedaling or go nonstop down a hill without interruption.I mean, would’nt it be kinda weird if we were to go into a gym and interupt someone’s workout while they were in the heat of the moment of a really good workout??Well, does’nt that happen almost everytime a mountain biker get’s on a multiuse trail by having to stop and pull over for a hiker or equestrian to go by since us mountain biker’s yeild all other traffic??
With this first of it’s kind public forum on the book’s,it sure does feel like these issue’s are being brought to the forefront of being dealt with and the wall’s that keep mountain biker’s from there own trail’s are on death row.
There’s alot going on here in colorado with this first of it’s kind public forum with the jcos, comba, and the mounatain bike community, and changes are in the wind.Wooo Hoooo.
