Depends on the race for me – I mean if I am prepping for a XC – I try to be comfortable with 2 times the distance and I take a good look at the course elevation profile to see where and when I will be putting in the most work. Pre- riding is a good thing as well though not always possible. Since we are not talking pro’s I will say this – the biggest thing in any race prep is to have FUN!
