I am curious to get some feedback from some experienced racers on training milage prior to a race. To be specific, how many miles do racers typically ride while training for a race? Not a pro race per say but a lower level race. The reason I ask is when I have trained for a races I was running I knew I needed to run a certain number of miles per week to be in my peak shape. With MTB I am uncertain. Thanks for any input.

Depends on the race for me – I mean if I am prepping for a XC – I try to be comfortable with 2 times the distance and I take a good look at the course elevation profile to see where and when I will be putting in the most work. Pre- riding is a good thing as well though not always possible. Since we are not talking pro’s I will say this – the biggest thing in any race prep is to have FUN!
