After Sombrio ran into financial difficulty in late 2013 and had to cease operations, Sugoi has now acquired the Sombrio brand, allowing it to continue as a viable entity.

We have reviewed both Sombrio and Sugoi products here on Singletracks in the past, and Sombrio is known more as a freeride mountain bike/lifestyle clothing brand, whereas Sugoi is known as a road bike/XC mountain bike clothing brand. The acquisition of Sombrio will greatly expand the scope of products that Sugoi can offer, while at the same time keeping Sombrio in business.

Dave Watson, Sombrio founder, is excited for this new chapter in Sombrio’s life: “I welcome the opportunity this acquisition creates as well as the boost Sombrio will see in future products and improving relationships in our market.   I’m thrilled to lead the charge on the growth of Sombrio alongside a new team. Our brand will drive innovation with some of the best athletes and creative minded individuals in the two wheel space.”

Sombrio joins Sugoi under the umbrella of Dorel Industries. Dorel also owns Cannondale, Schwinn, GT, Mongoose, Caloi, and IronHorse.
