best_mtb_gear_2014

Our latest infographic is a heavy on the info, light on the graphics, but it does a great job highlighting some of the best mountain bike products of 2014!

We had hoped to uncover some interesting differences in brand and product preferences based on gender, region, and riding experience but to our surprise, there really wasn’t much to report. Perhaps the strongest regional differences were found in bike brand preferences (shown at the top of the graphic) but those really only showed up in 3rd through 5th places. I guess this internet thing really does reach all around the world, keeping us all up to speed on the latest and greatest MTB gear! Or maybe it’s just the hive mind in action. 🙂

Check out this clickable list of the top products with more information and reviews. Congrats to all the top brands!

Lots of interesting information in this infographic! I’m not going to dive into every takeaway here, but I think some of the best brands VS best products results are interesting. For instance:

-Cane Creek comes in a distant second to Fox on the shock brand list, but the Cane Creek DB Air dominates as the best single shock.
-Pearl Izumi was only voted the 5th-best shoe company, yet the X-Project makes the top of the list as the best single pair of shoes.
-Fox wins as the best fork brand, but none of the Fox forks come anywhere close to the RockShox Pike.

The best brand list is sorta like a basketball team. Some teams are great because they have one star player. Others are great because they have deep benches. 🙂

Haha, that’s a great way to put it!

SRAM pipping Shimano in the drivetrain category was unexpected – looking like the 1x products being a big factor. Good market competition is good for consumers 🙂

I ended up unable to comply the survey. I didn’t feel like I had any possible way to say what is best, when I’ve only ridden one bike for two years. And few other products. Very few things I’ve actually spent the time to find out about. I would have only voted for what I was riding, like picking my local basket ball team. Can’t wait to get out on the trail with my new number two post.
