Over the last year or two we’ve seen a number of bike-related Kickstarter campaigns from individuals and start-ups, but this is perhaps one of the first we’ve seen from an established company like Light & Motion. The product–a GoPro Companion Light–is designed to add additional lighting in low light or backlit situations. Light & Motion is seeking $50,000 and as of this writing is more than halfway there.

As anyone who has ever used a GoPro knows, these cameras need plenty of light to produce high quality footage. But even during daylight runs, many trails duck in and out of tree cover, leading to variable quality video. The idea is that adding a light like the Sidekick will help even out brightness, and will add some fill light to your subject in certain situations (say, for follow-cam footage). Night trail footage should benefit as well, though Light & Motion doesn’t address this use case directly on the Kickstarter page.

The light itself will emit 600 lumens in a wide beam pattern and will feature a sealed rechargeable battery, making the unit waterproof. Right now, the light can be pre-purchased with a $100 or higher pledge.
