I get the need to differentiate between different MTB styles (XC, DH, FR, AM, DJ) but what’s up with all the divisions within XC? I just read a press release that was talking about an "XCO course" and an "XCE event" and I had no idea what they meant.

XCE appears to be an XC Elimination race (whatever that is) but XCO…? I remember a couple years ago folks were talking about XXC which was ultra-endurance riding. Can someone fill me in?

I’m as stumped as you are…

XCO = Cross Country Olympic is a race on a circut
XCM = CC Marathon is a long distance race from A to B
XCE = Eleminator is the replacement of 4X. 3 to 5 racers start at once on a short XC track. 1st and 2nd goes to the next leg, others are done

      XCO

Ah ha, thanks ollysj! Should’ve known to ask a European. 😀

So is XCM used instead of XXC now? Or is that something different?

Woa I had never heard of any of these abbreviations. Wouldn’t it just be easier to say how many miles each race is?

      XXC?
Basicly XCO and XCM is the same. The difference is the race track. To become more spectator-friendly, they started to use a circut, so the racers passes you several times during a race. If you attent a XCM, the racers just pass you once.

The XXC races I have worked with start and end at the same place. Usually 40 miles or so.

XCCD is the new class for fullfigured racers. Cross Country ClydesDale class. We start last and can be found on the first big climb swapping techniques and resting. 😄 Later,

When I was growing up I just said, "I’m going out to ride my bike." Man have things gotten complex! Seems like some secred code!

XXC is the US acronym I think. Most folks just call it endurance riding/racing though.

The XC Eliminator is pretty lame. The first one was really good supposedly, but the last few have been mostly pavement.

They had only scheduled 3 events anyway, so the UCI is done with it for now. I wonder why they just didn’t stick to 4x?
