I was wondering what, if any, mountain bike mags you all read.

    • #80530

      I’m subscribed to: http://www.singletracks.com/blog 😎

      Bike Magazine

+1 for BIKE. Best out there for pics.

    • #80533

Bike, best out there for pictures AND for well written, artistic, inspiring (and factual) articles.

    • #80534

I feel like Bike has great, down-to-earth content as well, Mountain Bike used to be my fave but their recent redesign left them with not as much content.

DirtRag is also good, but I read them online.

      Well said.

Man there is something about that magazine that leaves me wanting to ride every time I put it down.

seriously, its INCREDIBLE! same guys that do powdermag, which is also easily the best ski magazine out there too! although i would say they have a little more competition for quality ski mags.

i do read dirtrag occasionally too

I would agree. I just bought my first Mountain Bike mag yesterday. I enjoyed a couple of the articles, but it was a fast read. In the end, I didn’t feel like I got much for my five bucks. A few of the articles seemed to end abruptly. I turned the page expecting it continue and…nothing.

I’ll have to check out Bike magazine.

      thanks!

That’s exactly the feeling I had with Mountain Bike, and you will get lot more out of Bike.

Bike, Mountain Bike, Mountain Bike Action. I’ll pick up and read Dirt Rag and others when I’m in the book store. I forgot which one but one of them comes with a subscription to Bicycling magazine. Mostly road related but has a MTB section and some of the fitness and other isn’t style specific.

That would be ‘Mountain Bike Action’ brother.[/quote:2l0gw1k2]
      "Mountain Bike" comes with Bicycling….
"Mountain Bike Action" is its own publication

    • #80543

No problem…that’s why there’s more than one of us here…😃

    • #80544

You can buy Bicycling and get Mountain Bike for free. and you can Buy Moutain Bike Action and get Road Bike Action for next to nothing. If you are a dual rider

    • #80545

The only way to subscribe to mountain bike magazine is by subscribing to Bicycling magazine.

Bicycling is 11 issues, Mountain Bike is 7. I remember it being 11 and 9 respectively before their redesign a few months ago, but I could be wrong on that.

Mountain Bike is another one that puts their best info on the website for free, so again I wouldn’t bother. Dirt Rag and Bike seem to be the only ones worth getting in portable, bathroom-ready format anymore.

Besides you can only spend so much time at the Library.

For me and my house…….I read Bike and the blogs on Singletracks

    • #80548

Add another reader of BIKE to the list… Others are lacking in everything i like in a mag… The guys at BiKE just seem to have it all together.. 😎

    • #80549

BIKE mag is the only the only one that I have come to like. They typically have the best articles along with some the best dang photography I have ever seen.

      It makes me dream……. 😛 😮 😮 😼 😆 😉 💡 💡

    • #80550

Yeah, Dirt Rag is my fave of the majors. Unfortunately I think they are struggling and may one day become an "online only" sort of publication…

Hey maddslacker, why not just print posts off the singletracks blog for your bathroom reading 😀

Man, this thread is going down the toilet hehehe.

So far I have only bought Dirt Rag; been trying to ween off of printed magazines. Got a library of old Nat. Geographic, NG Adventure, Canoe and Kayak, etc.

    • #80554

I read the Dirt Rag, $99 life time subscription.

    • #80555

I am not one for magazines, however if you join IMBA and SORBA jointly for $30 a year you get a free subscribtion to both "Bicycling" and "Mountain Bike"

Mountain Bike,Mountain Bike Action are my two

    • #210946

      Resurrected!

Wondering how this list of favorite MTB magazines has changed since this thread started 8 years ago. Some magazines have gone away while others have roared onto the scene. Still others appeared, then disappeared in the same timeframe.

      Thoughts?

    • #210952

Bike was probably by fave back in that time, but it tends to feel like a giant bike ad nowadays.

Mountain Flyer is my fave now. Great pics, great stories, even some race coverage. Dirt Rag would be my second choice for a print mag.

    • #210955

We recently had a copy of Mountain Flyer floating around here in the office and noticed the cover price: $9. Yikes! Great magazine, but I probably wouldn’t pick one up at the LBS or airport due to the price.

    • #211001

Been a BIKE mag subscriber since day one. Great articles. I’m getting BC fatigue though with all the photos and\or riders from BC maybe they should pull up stakes in Socal and move to Canada. Mountain Flyer is expensive but a great read and photos. Dirtrag is pretty solid as well.
