Mountain Biking Zack's Fork

*****   Add a review
#33 of 532 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
#507 in the world

An impressive flowy singletrack loop right in the middle of Lenoir, NC. Only 3 miles, but the trail is very well built. Great flow, lots of berms, and a surprising elevation change (250ft) which allows for a nice berm-filled .4 mile descent. The feel / flow is similar to Kerr Scott trails - like the OVT, but much shorter. If you're in the area riding Rocky Knob or Kerr Scott, its definitely worth stopping in.

Getting there
Take 321 to the north side of Lenoir. Turn on to Nuway Circle drive. After about .5 miles, Take a right on Zack's Fork rd. Park at the Lenoir Rotary Soccer Complex. The trailhead is marked with a large wooden map kiosk that is easy to find. Directly in front of the main parking area on the other side of the paved Greenway is a bridge across the creek. Take that bridge and follow the signs along the double track that point to the trail. After about 1/4 mile you will see the map kiosk.

Well maintained, closed after rain. Few roots (rare for the area). Short loop that makes for a great lunch or post work ride. Family friendly, easy to bail out. Trail is multi directional so watch for traffic and yield to those climbing! Berms are well made, some are too tight for my riding ability but I'm sure it's just me

This trail was built with the beginner mountain biker in mind. The trail is challenging enough to provide a beginner a solid mountain bike experience and prepare them for other trails in the area. For the experienced rider, the trail is an awesome example of a fast flow trail that's short and sweet!

This is a short trail, only about 3 miles, but you couldn't ask for more with whats there. All singletrack, lots of lumps and berms, and even a nice curvy downhill. Same feel as the Kerr Scott trails, just shorter.

This trail is impressive. Definitely needs to be ridden in the direction that allows you to take advantage of the amazing Lombard street. (Twisty switchback run with 8 or more massive tight berms) I'll admit the switchbacks were a little above my level but I can't wait til the leaves clear so I can practice nailing them. My only issues arose from getting on the trail. Some breadcrumbs from the parking lot to the trailhead would be great. Looked like machine cut singletrack with ver few roots. A few climbs I recall but nothing too long, unless you go the other way. Thanks for the great work.
