Trail Description
About this trail
West Orange Trail
Just a few miles from metropolitan Orlando and Walt Disney World, the West Orange Trail is a central Florida attraction of a different sort. This world-class rail-trail, which travels through the communities of Winter Garden and Apopka, offers a rewarding experience and excellent facilities for the visitor. Among the highlights along the trail are a xeriscape/butterfly garden about a mile east of the Oakland Outpost, the Winter Garden Historical Museum and some picturesque views of Lake Apopka. The trail also provides access to and from Clarcona Horseman’s Park, offering equestrians a staging area for their visit. The constant changes in scenery and the relaxed atmosphere of the towns along the way make this a great ride. This trail will eventually be a part of the 200 mile planned regional connection known as the Central Florida Loop.

Review: I ride this (completely paved) Rail trail about weekly. Either on my road bike or I'll take the mountain bike if I'm trailering my little one. Rides through downtown winter garden and past some parks. Riding past Ocoee HS there are cows that generally sit along the fence. The trail goes through some neighborhoods and traffic crossings are minimal compared to other rail-to-trail rides in central Florida. The trail is also about 10ft wide in most areas and riders are courteous for the most part. Don't go here if you want something technical, extreme, or off road at all. If you want to put in some miles, have nice scenery, and enjoy some whole family riding, it is great.

Review: Entirely paved. It's an easy way to get a lot of miles in and it doesn't have you stop for road crossing every 500 ft like other paved bike trails.

Review: This trail is not a "mountain" bike trail because the entire section is paved. There are areas where you can get creative off the edge of the trail, but those paths aren't really long enough to note. Overall, just a good way to get some flatlands exercise and stay out of the traffic.
