Trail Description
About this trail
A 9.5 mile trail that goes along the lakeshore to the Petersburg camping area. It is technical in some areas but mostly for novice-intermediate riders. I have been riding fior 10 years and use it for speed work. You can easily get an average speed of 10-11 mph.

Review: Trail is in great shape. Very good trail to practice with speed. Like to add that this trail is easily marked and would be next to impossible to get lost, even if you had no signs at all. Wanted to add that after reading a negative review below.

Review: The first mile or so of this trail was great. Then it just got very bland. The trail marking went from great to non-existent. I got about 4.5 miles out on the trail and it just ended at the lake. Evidently I made a wrong turn somewhere. I traced my way back trying to find the trail and just went back to the truck. Maybe if there is a next time I will try the ride from the dam.

Review: Great trail for beginners! Nice flow of mostly flat/rolling terrain in the woods and along the lake. Wife loved the open area and ease of riding. So much better than pumping station or canal trail in Augusta. This is worth the 25 minute drive from the town. Not to far from F.A.T.S. Combine both of these trails for a day full of excellent riding!

Review: super easy trail, on the section I rode. I understand the other parts are more technical.

I heard that the trail really soaks up water in the rain, and that was very true today. I rode through a nice downpour and the trail had almost no signs of moisture. Compared to Skinny at FATS which I rode yesterday, these trails were very dry.

Considering I've never ridden the trail and there was some leaf cover and rail, i'd estimate this to be the fastest trail I've ridden in the area.

Similar Trail: I consider this most similar to the Northern portion of the Long Cane Horse Trail, only a little flatter.

Review: Great trail for what it is. It is pretty, feeling of remote, and can be real fun. Don't come here looking for anything technical. I'd take a beginner here, but they may be a but hesitant at some of the ups and downs. This is what makes it fun. I admit I was a bit bored when I started out, then I got to feel what the trail was. I pedaled faster and had a great time flying over all the many whoop do woos. I happened to be working in the area, so I don't foresee me every making a 2 hour drive to ride here again. Locally, it is worth a trip if you just want to enjoy being in the woods and aren't looking for a workout. I went on a weekday evening and was so all alone. It felt pretty remote, and the scenery was nice. Don't forget your bug spray!! Funi if you live locally. Like I said, just don't come expecting any elevation or anything technical. However, you can probably get in some fun little jumps if you pedal fast.

Review: Fantastic trail! I rode from the parking area at West Dam to the TH for the Lake Springs Loop. I road the Lake Springs loop and then road from the TH there to the Petersburg Camp ground. Turned around and did it in reverse. Great trail, not technical at all. My average speed was around 8-9 mph on each segment. Great place to put the hammer down! I would highly recommend riding this trail if you are in the area. Also, some other great trails in the area, including F.A.T.S.

Similar Trail: F.A.T.S, Hickory Knob (Lakeview Loop)

Review: Well marked, well maintained trail. Flows nicely and a good ride if camping at Petersburg Campground. We stayed here while in the area to ride FATS.

Review: As a trail runner, I always search for the trails that mt bikers recommend. I was visiting family in August and found the Bartram trails thru Singletracks. I did an out-n-back from West Dam to Petersberg, about 13 miles. It was a great run, we'll-marked and not over used. Saw one pair of bikers during the run (Sat morn, 9am). I'll definitely come back to do a more planned point to point to take in the rest of the local trail, a total of about 25 miles or so as far as I could figure.
