Trail Description
About this trail
(description from the website)
The Swamp Forest Trail loops around Lums Pond through fresh water wetland forests of Black Cherry, Sweet Gum, and maple. The trail links to the campground, boat launch, disc golf course, dog training area, nature center and picnic areas. Hikers will follow gentle terrain over a packed earth or crushed stone surface and cross over many elevated boardwalks and bridges.

Personal opinion, Very fun little trail a few cool elevated walkways and tight areas make for an interesting ride, but not technical to the point to scare the novice rider. Definitely a great place to start, and the views of the pond are amazing!! Lots of fun.

Review: Very novice friendly. A great trail to blast a few miles on or to introduce a friend / child into the sport of MTB. Mostly flat with one or two short flow sections.

Review: Great for MTB beginners, very flat, mixed with crush and run and dirt single tracks, some roots.

Review: Great trail for a late afternoon workout. The circuit took me around the pond in just under an hour. Used this as a reintroduction ride after being away from MTB for a few years, and it did not disappoint. While not a really technical trail, there are a few scattered roots and obstacles to negotiate, interspersed with some smooth stretches to catch your breath. All in all, a good ride for the novice/beginner looking to slightly upgrade their game, or the more seasoned rider who is looking to get in a quick workout.

Review: This trail is so much fun to ride. It's about 7 miles long, the elevation stays pretty much the same (no insane steep hills to climb), and hugs the pond throughout most of the trail. There are a few roots that you have to navigate (par for the course), but nothing too difficult. Great for a beginner, and if it's too much you can always grab a connecting trail outward to the Little Jersey trail which is wider, harder dirt, and flatter. This also circles the pond but at a wider circumference..

Review: Basic trail around the pond. A short stretch has some more technical roots and gets pretty narrow. Overall it provides some good views. Also it costs to enter the park. I think next time I will just drive the extra distance to Newark, DE.

Review: Fun, beginner friendly trails here. Mostly flat terrain so you can work up some speed. Only a few obstacles on the trails but there are clear paths around them. One very short section had a lot of roots, but that was about as hard as it got.

Review: I am a RANK beginner, so please consider my review in this context, particularly regarding technical rating and difficulty. The trail is pretty, ** fairly ** well marked, and is a GREAT ride. It was challenging enough for a beginner to be fun, but never a barrier. There were some obstacles along the way, but in each case there was a clear path around them, making them optional. This was greatly appreciated. Great scenery, good ride. The trail is well-marked, except in a few spots. When in doubt on the few unmarked spots, take the side closest to the pond.

Review: Wouldn't quite call this an intermediate track, but this is a GREAT beginner technical XC singletrack. Only a few quick climbs, not very much elevation. Smooth trail, flowy, and fun. Many root beds to navigate as well as some man-made obstacles such as rock beds and log piles. I clocked 6.3 miles on a full loop and ran it twice. I had a fun time so no complaints here. There were a few sloppy mud pits on the low side by the water that was unavoidable, but the trail was otherwise dry and fast. There were also a few spots where I didn't know which way to go because the splits in the gravel road weren't marked. "Stay on the pond". Good job to whomever maintains this trail.

Review: This a very good intermediate singletrack. There is also a double track on the perimeter. Well maintained and shaded trail. Nice bridges and excellent scenery.

Similar Trail: I also like Fairhill but it is a lot more difficult.
