Trail Description
About this trail
Roughly 5 miles of new singletrack added to the existing trail system originally
consisting of a couple miles of old carriage rd and doubletrack by the Merrimack
Valley NEMBA chapter. Russell Mill now sports 7 miles of trails ridden in one
direction with enough connector trails that easily allow much of the system to
be ridden forwards and backwards giving the potential for a 10 to 12 mile ride
just at this site. Trail design ensures the ability to have enough of a different
riding experience doing the same trail in reverse and makes it easy to do so.
Along with the trails there is a pump track on site.

Review: Russell Mill is a great step up from its neighbor, Billerica State Forest. If I was to make an analogy, Russell Mill would be like the younger (but more aggressive) brother of BSF. It is a short trail system, but, oh, it is a freakin' killer trail - and besides, bigger doesn't always mean better (unless we are talking about Harold Parker). There's a gnarly pump track near the entrance, and the whole trail network is like a clone of BSF on steroids. However, even though it's a smaller park, BSF had parts that werent technical at all. Here at Russell, there is no such thing as a non-technical trail. It is literally all the sharp turns, rocks and boulders, and hills from BSF but even a bit better. Some people say it's not very technical, but that's their opinion. Overall, if you really want to step your game up, visit Russell next. Do not make this one of your first trails if you are new to mountain biking, though.

Review: One of the best trails in the Northeast part of MA. Short park, but the trails are clean and technical enough for even the seasoned rider to enjoy.

Review: Great for folks in the area, might be a little short if the drive is more than an hour (You can do the whole thing in 3 hours tops), but definitely one of the funnest trail systems I've been on in the area. Some decent climbs, some flowy singletrack (Wild Turkey - wee!), and a pumptrack.

Also, Great Brook is a pretty short distance, so if you want to stretch out your ride you can head that way.

Best parking is at the Murphy Soccer field on Mill Road.

Review: these trails are great for beginners to learn, as well as intermediate MBers, there are nice obstacles to challenge you if so desired, or, take the alternate low risk routes, there are log bridges various heights, drops of boulders, nice switch backs, lots of rocks/roots in some sections, other sections, nice downhill switch back for exciting turns, the trail is very well maintained (thanks to whoever does that), pump track is condensed and a nice option.

Review: Would be 5 stars if it were bigger. A 20 mile ride is going to take a lot of repeating the same areas but it's great for being so close. The pump track makes it even better. Easy parking and trail entry. (Soccer fields) Cool views of Russell Mill pond. Close enough to Great Brook Farm where you can easily do both in the same day. This place is made for riders who have 1-3 hours. Would be very hard to get lost here as the trails are well marked. Thanks NEMBA!

Review: This place is small, but really sweet! They did a really good job using the space to get as many trails in the small area as they could. It's pretty typical NE riding, rocky and rooty, but it's not too technical. There is a small pump track that is fun for a warm up and/or cool down. There is a ton of parking at the soccer fields, and it's typically pretty busy in the evening, because it's a great place to hit a short ride after work! If you live close it's certainly worth checking out!

Review: NEMBA has been busy - trails are in great shape for spring and some features have had work. A few berms have been built up, too. Go ride!
