Trail Description
About this trail
This system of trails has a unique history as it used to be Meadowdale International racetrack decades ago. The old racetrack has been restored to a sweet paved bike track but there is quite a bit of off road trails in and around the track. The terrain is pretty varied for Illinois which makes this worth riding. There are some steep descents straight down the fall line sometimes including jumps, there are some twisty trails through the woods and there are some longer stretches through meadows.

Q: How many miles is the trail? -Guest

A: You can get in 14 miles with a good circuit and the system and doing some backwards. This makes it so you don't feel like you're ridding the same trails over and over

Review: Awesome trails in the chicago burbs. Very tight and twisty to make it fun. Some berms, jumps, bridges to make it interesting. Trail crew has been hard at work. All it needs is more mileage to be 5 stars.

Review: Went for my first true single track exp today at raceway and it was great. Plenty of trail and some steep incline and decline mixed with lots of trees and rocks made it entertaining. Was slick and ate $hit a couple times but oh well. Deer also scared the poop out of me. Not many people made it more of a solitary experience, which was great. Showed some flaws in my from scratch mtb. Like no front brake. Reason why i crashed 3 times. Was fun though, definitely good for exp and novice riders. A tad overgrown due to it being late summer

Review: This trail is great for beginners. On the south parking lot, you can start off by introducing yourself to getting used to gravel and dirt with minimal climbing and a small downhill. Then you can progress to taking the hiking path which is fairly fast and windy. From there, you can also take the trail through the horse farm which is also fast depending on which direction you're coming from. Once you are more comfortable, you can park on the north end by the water tower. From the parking lot, you can head straight to the woods and challenge yourself with multiple uphill paths. When you're on the top, you can either go back to the hiking trail or go down the official singletrack which is fast and somewhat technical. What's nice about Raceway is that there are multiple paths that you can interconnect to your liking. Even a secret "jump" trail! Only thing to be mindful is that most of the trails are hiking and horse trails so be prepared to stop or slow down which can be difficult in some areas. Another drawback is that it is a two-way trail, so some blind turns can be tricky or some bikers can be jerks and not slow down. Overall, it is a great well maintained trail that everybody should definitely go and see and try. For beginners, it's a great stepping stone before hitting the big trails like John Muir, Emma Carlin or Palos. If you're not familiar with the trails, I would recommend going on a Wednesday late afternoon as there are a group of riders that are there who can show you the trails and I'm one of them. ;)

Review: Not a beginner trail. I ride there all the time , there's ramps, rocks, creeks to cross, and a lot more. The absolute best place to mtb or hike. Also great for snowboard and cross country skiing in winter
