#267 of 1,003 mountain bike trails in California
#3,340 in the world

The is a multi-use bi-directional trail that has been listed because it enable you to create complete loops with the Tahoe Rim Trail by riding up Cold Creek trail and Saxons Creek trail (Mr. Toads). It is a nearly butter smooth singletrack that is fast and fun if you're looking for a warm up ride while in the Tahoe area.

Ride this trail and you won't need to shuttle your bike if you're staying in South Lake Tahoe.

Getting there
You can access the Powerline trail from multiple points in South Lake Tahoe as it parallels the Pioneer Trail Road. From US HWY 50 traveling East, turn right on Ski Run and proceed up the road and turn right again near the top just before the road dead ends. Proceed down this road for 1/4 mile and you will come to another dead end and a barricade. The trail can be accessed by riding around the barricade.

This is a well marked beginner trail. There are no technical obstacles on the trail. It is a nice up and down trail that skirts the side of Pioneer Trail Road next to Heavenly. You get some beautiful views of Lake Tahoe in several different locations. Then it meanders through the forest and over a couple of bridges. It eventually leads out to actual powerline's where it becomes pretty loose and sandy. The trail is 7.4 miles one way. It is just an out and back. To pick up the trail from the Heavenly village area head west on Pioneer Trail road take a left onto Ski Run blvd and drive up the road until it dead ends on a gate. At the gate make a right into the residential neighborhood. The road dead ends on the trailhead. Once on the trail keep heading left over the rocks, down and then back up the mountain slightly about 50ft, then the trail meets up again to the right. It's very easy to follow after that. If you are coming from Meyers/ Sacramento area the easiest way to pick up the trail is to make a right from highway 50 onto Oneidas rd. drive down the street past the green forest service gate. Then you will see a large parking lot on the left hand side just past the creek. Park there and head south on the dirt road you will go over a bridge and see yourself underneath some actual powerline's. This is where the trail starts just head east on trail for the rest of the way. If you have any questions about it come in and see us or call Shoreline of Tahoe 775-580-7722

It has beautiful scenery, not technical at all and has some gradual climbs but nothing crazy. Just a nice workout and my first ride in tahoe this year. Still had some snow which made it a little more fun. Overall just a good workout with great views of the forest.
