Mountain Biking Phillips Ridge

*****   Add a review
#12 of 238 mountain bike trails in Wyoming
#756 in the world

Trail is recommend to be done as a shuttle but can be done as an out and
back from trailhead on Fish Creek Road. Shuttle is easiest by parking a
vehicle and the Stagecoach bar or the Gas station in Wilson. This does
have you ride 3 miles of road back to the car after the trail but is easier and
saves time. Driving the 3 miles from Wilson to the End is on a slow 25mph
road. Trail starts about 100 yards from the hwy on the right side of road.
Trail is marked. First segment is the Arrow Trail. Stay on the trail until you
come to what should be your second trail junction. Take the trail to the
right marked Snotel. This will lead you to another junction and sign marked
for Phillips Ridge or Ridge trail head that way and enjoy your descent.
Other variations are when you come to your first junction take a right onto
the Ridge trail. This leads you to the same place with just a little more
climbing than the Snotel trail (about same mileage). The last 1/2 mile
travels through private property that is signed so be respectful. Trails also
abruptly drops you out onto Fish Creek RD so be careful. All is signed well
at the bottom. When you hit Fish Creek road head right back into Wilson.

Starting out the grade is pretty mellow and the terrain is very smooth. The further you climb, the rockier and more technical it gets. Eventually, you get on top of the ridge and, although fairly flat, seems to go on forever until one last punch to the top. Along the ridge, I couldn't take my eyes off the amazing views of the valley floor. Because of reported snow (early June) in Phillips Canyon, I bombed back the way I came down Phillips Ridge - awesome! This is absolutely a must-ride for anyone visiting.

Arrow trail to Ridge Trail is super fun, flowy singletrack. Once on Ridge Trail, it's littered with enough rocks and switchbacks to keep it interesting. Overall, not a lot of elevation gain, but plenty of descent. Definitely one of my favorite trails in the valley!

The first 3-4 miles on the Arrow trail are nice and smooth singletrack. After you drop into Phillips Canyon the challenge begins. Trail is littered with large rocks and some root drops along the almost 2k foot descent. Trail should provide a challenge for most levels of biking. It is fun you just have to be on your toes going through the rocky sections. Moose and bear are around. Trail provides great scenery as well.

Trail is recommend to be done as a shuttle but can be done as a loop if you
    go up Phillip's Ridge.
Shuttle is easiest by parking a vehicle at the Stagecoach bar or the Gas
station in Wilson. This does have you ride 3 miles of road back to the car
after the trail but is easier and saves time. Driving the 3 miles from Wilson
to the End is on a slow 25mph road.
Trail starts about 100 yards from the hwy on the right side of road.
Trail is marked. First segment is the Arrow Trail. You should encounter 2
signed trail junctions just take a left each time. The first 4 miles consist of
the uphill and some downhill. It does have about 3 bridge crossings on the
trail. The Second is the scariest for me. After the big bridge over the creek
you will start into Phillip's Canyon proper. (All Downhill hill from here) This is
the most technical trail that isn't downhill only in the area. There are ALOT
of rocks consisting of 1-2 foot drops and some root drops as well.
Suspension will be greatly appreciated. The last 1/2 mile travels through
private property that is signed so be respectful. Trails also abruptly drops
you out onto Fish Creek RD so be careful. Area is signed well at the
bottom. When you hit Fish Creek road head right back into Wilson.

Trail is the longest on Teton Pass. You climb close to 1k feet before you end up dropping over 2k. Downhill isn't real technical. Has alot of tight switchbacks. Ridge provide huge views into Jackson Hole!
