Mountain Biking Pax Hill

****   Add a review
#2 of 35 mountain bike trails in Australia
#3,851 in the world

The trails in the Pax Hill MTB Park are awesome fun, as part of the Canadian State Forest, just east of Ballarat, Victoria. Mostly a network of singletrack combined with fire trails that make an awesome network of very fun trails .Fairly wide singletrack with roller coaster sections ,jumps ,huge berms & very flowing singletrack . A & B lines ,big jumps if you're up for them & many loops & options for some fast & challenging riding ,(be careful of old mine shafts that litter the area , some have 30 - 50 ft vertical drops & the trails go right through the middle of them , no mistakes .... otherwise !) Very good trails - wide, bermy & roller coaster like ,flowing & smooth - take a map , there is a shelter with drinking water near the Pax Hill Carpark , this is a big area , Ballarat MTB Club have sculpted the trails beautifully for some awesome riding .From the trail head at the car park ,take any network of trails which form loops ,the trails are not named ,although most are pretty obvious .The trails weave through big forests of Gum trees & other native flora & fauna .These trails are perfect just after a light shower of rain ,then once a bit tacky , you can really challenge yourself with more speed & grip & less likely to slip on the gravelly sections .A venue for the recent Victorian Enduro MTB Series with a very fun & challenging 12 km loop . These trails are for intermediate to more advanced mountain bikers , although there are easier trails for the beginners . The trails are so roller coaster like & flowing that the climbing around this park is minimal , yet the trails are very challenging . There are sections of climbs that will make your legs scream , depending on the pace you decide to take . For a day trip from Melbourne , an awesome days mountain biking can be had here , awesome & very fun

Great trails which are well maintained by the local mountain bike club, you can really push hard as the trails are really flowy, only complaint is that some of the corners have nasty brake bumps.

Unfortunately there is no clear signage to navigate the amount of trails here. For a place with so much potential it looks like little has been done about it. Very upsetting to see massive amounts of garbage dumped on the fire roads around the singletrack. This place could be brilliant, right now it is not.

An awesome network of wide singletrack & fire trails amongst the Canadian State Forest , Ballarat . Trailhead at Pax Hill Car Park , big jumps , big wide berms , mine shafts as obstacles to avoid , very roller coaster like in sections , & the opportunity for big jumps , good for intermediate to advanced , very challenging , choose your lines well ,some unforgiving sections ,a great network of very fun trails amongst a very beautiful State Forest , watch out for snakes especially in summer as well as Kangaroos , wombats , echidnas & any other wildlife , a truly superb area for mountain biking
