Mountain Biking Mooseberry Mesa

*****   Add a review
#7 of 52 mountain bike trails in Alaska
#1547 in the world

Recently built by Valley MB Association with help from IMBA this is a short but fun singletrack built within yet another x-country ski trail system, (Crevasse Moraine Trail System) here in SC AK. The first .4 mi takes you out along a ridge to an intersection with the main loop and also an optional second .6 mi trail- Moose p*** Loop (I'm not making this up, really). The main loop has a few ups & downs, great flow to it and a few switchbacks thrown in for good measure. Both loops can be ridden either direction, the Moose p*** Loop is a bit steeper with more switchbacks and a bit more fun just not as long.

By incorporating this ride along with the several miles of ski trails in the park you can put together a great afternoon ride without traveling so far from town.

Getting there
From Wasilla; aprox 7 mi E on Palmer-Wasilla highway, right on Loma Prieta dr, 1 mi to end of rd and parking lot. From Anchorage; 30 mi north to Parks Highway, 1 mi to Trunk rd, N (right turn) 4 miles to Palmer-Wasilla highway, 2 mi to R turn onto Loma Prieta dr, 1 mi to end of rd and parking lot. The singletrack trail is located within another ski trails system, please read the sign posted in the parking lot or grab a map. In order to reach the singletrack you will need to ride aprox 1 mi into the park, the trailhead is between X & H on this trail system.

This is a fun trail to practice technique and has plenty of miles & hills to get a fine workout. You can enjoy these trails year-round so get out there!

Trail was nice and dry the day I went out and everything was smooth and fast. My only gripe would be that if you don't pay attention you may get a little lost trying to find the trail head. Other than that a smooth well put together session can be had, would recommend to anyone looking for a nice 2 hour ride.

Really fun place to ride when conditions in Anchorage are too wet. Lots of trails with some really fun single track trails.
