Mountain Biking Monterey Trails

*   Add a review
#168 of 195 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
#11569 in the world

The trail has some good speed which is good for killing yourself on the many curves. There is only one 150 yard hill that hurts. I'm a "weekend worrior", and have the option of walking this hill, or puking a lung(usually I go for the plueral fluid). I't is a 3.5 mile trail, which I do in 19-20 min., some do better, some do worse. This is a real good trail for sprint training, and getting your wife on the trail. FYI: This is a trail in the woods, no restrooms. Bring a change of clothes, avoid the big mud-holes(trust me), and have a blast.

Before you go
  • No Drinking water
  • No E-bikes permitted
  • No Fat biking allowed in winter
  • No Fee required
  • No Lift service
  • No Night riding allowed
  • No Pump track
  • No Restrooms
Getting there
"Take exit 301 off I-40 and go South(away from town), on 70. Go ~2-3 miles and your road will double back over I-40(no exits). Take the first road on the left(you'll see some clear cutting that was done, but trust me, this is not the trail). Go about 1 mile, and you'll see a "sand" two-track off to the right. If your truck didn't run out of gas getting this far, then your truck isn't big enough to take this road. Go 30 feet and turn right on a two-track at a "Gas Pipe connection/relay thing" Drive/ride back to the pipeline(in sight) and go right 40 yards until you see the Sand two-track on the right. Stop!! Look into the woods off your left shoulder, enjoy.

    double track, not too bad to get to where you are going on the offshoot trails.

    This trail seemed to be more for ATVs and dirt bikes. I was staying in area so I thought I'd give it a try but I have to be honest, it was awful. There were several down trees blocking portions of the trail, massive amounts of standing water (4-5 inches deep) and too many random turns/forks with no markings to follow.

    I would not recommend this trail, its worth the drive to Knoxville for better riding.
