I started at the Waikupanaha St. entrance and rode to the other end at Mahiku Pl. The trail is very wide for the first 1/2 mi and mostly uphill, but not too steep. The Maunawili Ditch trail itself splits off to the right (marked by a sign). If you continue straight up on the wide trail instead, you will come across some unmarked singletrack. I took the first trail on the left about 1/2mi past the Ditch trail and rode it approx 1mi, going downhill at an intersection. The trail looped back and re-connected with the main trail directly across from the ditch trail - that loop was so fun I rode it 2 more times! Taking the fork to the Maunawili Ditch trail proper, it takes you a couple of miles along some fun doubletrack I would rate as beginner level. Several trails (singletrack) head off from the main trail on both sides, these are more intermediate level and very fun. I didn't ride everything but ended up riding about 5mi.
Great trail, the first trail you come to from the parking lot is mainly used by horses. You travel about a half a mile to the ditch trail. Once you are on the ditch trail the are at least 15 different trails that spring off from there. I think the trip farther town the ditch are the better ones. They get pretty technical and some obstacles. You have a lot of options on this trail I've been going here for about a month now and I'm still finding more and better lines. I am a beginner MTB and this trail can be challenging or it can be a joy ride. Its a great single/double track.
