Mountain Biking Lower Fryatt

*****   Add a review
#22 of 219 mountain bike trails in Alberta
#3,906 in the world

The trail is fairly flat and nice single and double track. After riding for some time the trail will open on the left side and you will see the river and a majestic mountain range. There is a short gradual steep climb with a switchback, don't be intimidated, its the only one on the whole trail. As you continue to bike the trail will open up ahead of you, where you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the entire valley. This view is made even more incredible by the appearance of the hoodoo-like hillside at your feet. At this point it is only another 2 kms to your destination, Lower Fryatt. The wide trail follows the edge and then you head back into the forest. There will be a very gradual down hill into the Lower Fryatt camp site. Bikes are not allowed further than this point, so it makes a beautiful turn around. We have been here twice now, once a cloudy day and once on a rainy day. Both days were incredible. There is a wooden bridge over a creek and set behind that is the mountain.

Getting there
To get there, take Highway 93 from Jasper, Alberta to Athabasca Falls, Take 93A exit, pass parking lot, cross bridge and continue on road for about 2kms. There's a gravel road on the left side of the road, that often has a closed gate as well as a sign for Geraldine Lake. Park here and take the gravel road up to the trail head about 2kms, which is on the left side.
