Mountain Biking Lake Mineral Wells State Park

****   Add a review
#143 of 275 mountain bike trails in Texas
#5,481 in the world

Is a rails to trails project. There are four trail heads, downtown Mineral Wells, Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Garner, and west of Weatherford. The trail section in Mineral Wells is paved and free to use. The section from east of Mineral Wells running to Weatherford is crushed gravel and costs $5. Bikes with wider tires are optimal for riding the gravel sections. This is a great trail for bike packing with camping available at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. There is drinking water and restrooms available at all trail heads.

I ride this trail frequently on my bike. It is a rails to trails conversion and is very easy to ride. The section that is in Mineral Wells is paved. The section from the east side of Mineral Wells to Weatherford is crushed gravel. The gravel portion is good for trail running/hiking, bikes with wider tires, and horses. Horses are only allowed on the trail section from the State Park to Weatherford. The entire trail is 22 miles in length. Water and bathroom facilities are available at all of the trail heads. Plenty of good parking is available at all trail heads. This is a great trail for bike packing with camping available at Lake Mineral Wells State Park.

Anticipation getting to this trail was quite high. Knowing the terrain of this region, being in some areas somewhat questionable I was excited!! You arrive to state park entrance, greeted by friendly park rangers. Here you can get info on the park. By the way driving into the park very pleasing scenery. Driving back to the main trailhead youllpass the ever so quaint lake mineral wells, soon to be at trailhead.
Getting on the trail emediatly, I was very quickly disappointed as the trail appeared to be more for the equestrian type. Very cool for hiking, not so much for a my bike. Unless some trail building group shows up and builds some trails specifically for bikes, I won't ride out at this park anymore!
