Q: New to mountain biking in West Orange area. Can anyone help me with a route through the Eagle Rock Reservation? I found a few single tracks at the south west corner but seem to loose the trail after a mile or so. -dharris1990
Review: Fun, but really rocky! The kind of trail full suspension fat bikes were made for. The trail head is odly in the back of a baseball field but once you get past that it's all good. Technical climbs, a few flow sections, but one dicey area that could use some maintenance, it was on the side of the mountain and I was scares as hell I'd lose traction and slide down the hill. Some downed trees need to be cut and that one area flattened out, but overall a fun quiet place to ride.
Review: I rode Hilltop for the first time yesterday (4/14/16) and dug it for Jersey. This was the site of an old institution long gone and now turned into park/reservation so some remaining asphalt roads still exist. There is also a nice mix of single-track. Several of the single-tracks have nice flow and only some small rocks/roots. Other trails are more rock/root filled with some steep climbs. 11 miles total of potential riding. Good place for newbies and advanced technical riders as well.
Review: This is a really nice place to mountain bike! It is by far one of my favorites in North Jersey. The trails are really narrow, but will give you a really great challenge. There are some trails with lots of roots and rocks to avoid and ride over, but there are some ones that are good for beginners too. Just climbed to the top of this mountain today, holy cow! That's some serious climbing.
Review: I love it. Technical and rocky. 10 minute ride from my back door to the top of the White Rock trail. Can be combined with Walky World, West Essex Trail, Gregory's Pomd, Mills Reservation, Cedar Grove power line and Eagle Rock Reservation for an epic ride.
