Mountain Biking Hayes Gap

  Add a review
#81 of 108 mountain bike trails in Kentucky
#17,516 in the world

Trail is very up and down. theres a few spots with avoidable mud puddles, but the 4x4 road is very hard packed except where climbing or decending where its a bit more choppy. you could probably ride +15 miles on these old mountain top mining roads without hitting the same trail twice. expect up to 600' of elevation change throughout the trail, highest point is over 2000' above sea level (or 1100' above Barbourville) very quick fun ride with some quick descents and long climbs, all the while getting a great view of the Appalachians. Trail very commonly used, and expect to meet a 4-wheeler or 4x4 along the trail. Great Riding!

Getting there
From Barbourville: Left onto Davis Bend Rd just before GR Hampton school, follow Davis bend road to the Artemus Trussel Bridge, turn right at the bridge, follow this road about 3 miles staying on the main road, Park at the blue watertower at the top of Hayes Gap. -OR- turn up the trail on the opposite side of the road from the water tower. (SUV's and Trucks can negotiate the climb easily) keep right all the way to the top of the hill, about 1.2 miles. Contact me for more detailed directions!
