Mountain Biking Grundy Bike Trail
#142 of 284 mountain bike trails in Virginia
#6,585 in the world
This trail is basically a gravel road. It is cut into the side of a mountain about half way up. There are some good climbs and fast hills. The gravel is really loose and when entering switchbacks it can get slippery at speed. The views are very nice. Joggers sometimes use the trail. The best parts of the trail are the areas where you can play on the banks and cut off switchbacks by going straight down the mountain. Overall, it is just a place to ride if you are not looking for a challenge.

Go to Grundy, VA. There you will find the Appalachian School of Law. When leaving the parking lot of the school make a right on Slate Creek Road. Drive for a sixteenth of a mile and make a right at the first bridge to cross Slate Creek. Continue on this road up hill for about a quarter mile and the parking area will be on the left. You will see the trail.
Mostly wide gravel path, but more difficult due to extended climbs and switchbacks that are done in gravel. Nice length for a morning workout, prepare to walk your bike some if not in top shape. Also, bear country...
