Mountain Biking Glenbervie Forest Mountain Bike Park

*   Add a review
#330 of 381 mountain bike trails in New Zealand
#11871 in the world

The Glenbervie Forest trails are set in a commercial pine plantation on steep sided hills. The trails are spread out over a fairly large area linked by forestry roads. They are old-school trails with few worthwhile technical features and are generally tired and neglected. Its an active forest so trails get destroyed from time to time by logging and trimming activities.

When you arrive have a look at the notice board at the car park to see what trails have been shut down by forestry activities. The trails are the work of the Whangarei mountain bike club whose website is at www.bikenorthland.co.nz and they also have a Facebook feed. Neither is very useful for out-of-towners! The locals prefer the Parihika trails and that's where you should go too!

    Reviewing Frump:
    **

It's a reasonable old-school intermediate forest trail with a tricky exit that can be avoided.

    Reviewing Bluff:
    **

Steep and technical for the first half; almost level but quite flowing for the bottom half. It's just a kilometre long so is quickly over! Greasy in winter.

    Reviewing Shoelace:
    **

Shoelace gently undulates through the Glenbervie Forest for about 3/4 of a kilometre. It connects River Road to the bottom half of the Bluff trail so it allows a nice intermediate loop based around forest HQ which is at the end of Maruata Road.

    Reviewing Afraidium:

Afradium is just a waste of elevation and brake pad. The Bone Garden trail down the other side of the hill is a better bet if it's open.

    Reviewing B’warethetroll:
    **

B'warethetroll is a very short flowing downhill trail in the Glenvervie Forest that starts on Quarry Road and exits onto the Waitangi Track. It drops 200 meres over a total length of just 600 metres.

As at March 2018 many of the trails have been destroyed by forestry operations. What trails remain are not great!
