Mountain Biking Forest of Ae
#13 of 72 mountain bike trails in Scotland
Forest of Ae is forestry commission land and has a well signed car park for mtb called the '7Stanes' car park. The car park has a map on it. It doesn't have easy routes, just red and black. Details at www.7stanes.gov.uk. The red route is long and diverse. (19k) Lots of trees, a few granite drop offs and much to challenge you. But the true pearl is the last 3 miles of huge berms and jumps. The berms are 10 feet high in places. The jumps are similar and air is mandatory. Fantastic!

From the South, stay on the M6 all th way to the A74 + A74M. Take the A75 to Dumfries. On the outskirts of Dumfries take the A701 North to Moffat. Forest of Ae is signposted at the town called Ae Bridgend. From the North, leave the A74M at junction 15, signposted the A701 to Dumfries. Forest of Ae is on the right just after the town called Parkgate.
All levels. We rode red which can be technical. They also have black as some downhill. The 4th of the 7th Stane we have hit so far. I think Glentress is my fav so far. Red is def technical compared to a lot of stateside trails.Thank |
Parts of the route were closed due to loggin when we went, including the last 3 miles of jumps that I was dieing to try - Bugger! Just want to say - Phone ahead to check the status!!Thank |
