Mountain Biking Châtel Downhill Trails

The Châtel downhill trails are based around two chair lifts high in the mountains above the village of Châtel in the French Alps near the Swiss border.
There are no easy trails but there is plenty of choice for skilled riders. The trails are peppered with all kinds of jumps and big down-swooping berms along with the other usual downhill fun stuff.
Don't miss the trail that starts at the top of the Rochassons chair lift (the high one) and goes over the Col de Bassachaux. It starts with a fast flowing easy jumpy section, crosses the col (saddle), and swoops down to the base of the chair. Serpentine trail is also exceptional. It starts at the top of the Pierre Longines (lower) chair lift.

You could get a shuttle up the road from the village of Châtel to the base of the chair lift or you could start in downtown Morzine, go up the Super-Morzine gondola and go cross country from there. There are normally lots of bikers around so you can ask for directions as you go. It's takes about half an hour from Morzine and there are no significant climbs along the way - and one more chair lift after the pair collectively called Super-Morzine
