Trail Description
About this trail
Blue Heron is the newest singletrack in Greensboro! The Greensboro Fat Tire Society has been working hard constructing Blue Heron since spring of 2009. The trail head is directly across the street from the end of Reedy Fork trail and can be as an extension of Reedy Fork by simply crossing the street. Trail construction should be complete by the winter of 2009.

The trail starts off meandering by the shore line of beautiful Lake Townsend. There is plenty of variety too as the trail leads you out of the woods for multiple power line crossings. Blue Heron flows great and is relatively easy for any rider to tackle. A few sections have gullies and dips that are fun to blast through and out of.

One way Blue Heron is about 3 miles, so if you go out and back you will get right at 6 miles in.

Review: This was my first ride on Blue Heron. It's been some time since I have been on an MTB and boy did it show! This trail was awesome! 4 or 5 different types of terrain, red clay, soft pine needles, little sand and some (not too awful many) roots. The dips and climbs were GREAT! I had so much fun, I can't wait to get back in the saddle.

Review: My wife and I are new to mountain bike riding and we are in our early fifties. That said, we are both active and in good shape. Most of our local trails are fairly tame, The Blue Heron trail is in a beautiful setting, and presents various challenges for the beginner, but nothing too technical or difficult. Great flow with small rolling hills, some tight turns and a few berms. An awesome trail to increase your skill level and gain confidence if you are a beginner. Great atmosphere which is one of the reasons we took up mountain bike riding. We traveled three hours and stayed the weekend to ride this trail. We will be back.

Review: Blue Heron is a great riding trail, in that you can ride in the woods and enjoy your surroundings. There are some rooty areas, but this is more of a just-want-to-ride trail rather than a high technical trail. Connect it to Reedy Fork for a nice long ride.

Review: Great beginner trail; has some flow areas but also some straights. Short, at a little less than three and a half miles long, with a fair amount of twists, turns, drops, and climbs.
