Mountain Biking Blackburn State Park

**   Add a review
#323 of 393 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#11884 in the world

Blackburn State Park really isn't a state park anymore as it was shut down back in the 70's or 80's. There has been talk of late of Lumpkin County taking over the park and developing mountain bike trails here. This would be a great area to create a trail system for beginner to intermediate riders, as the Bull Mountain trail system is really pretty advanced.

At the present time, there are still some old trails and gravel roads on the property that are rideable. There is a doubletrack trail called the Pioneer trail that is actually pretty enjoyable, and there are numerous gravel roads going every which way.

If the area was to be developed, the possibilities would be endless!

Before you go
  • No Drinking water
  • No E-bikes permitted
  • No Fat biking allowed in winter
  • No Fee required
  • No Lift service
  • No Night riding allowed
  • No Pump track
  • No Restrooms
Getting there
From Dahlonega, head West out of town on Highway 52. At the bottom of the
big hill right after you cross the bridge, hang a left on Auraria Rd. and go
about 5.8 miles. You should see Blackburn Elementary on your left. Old
Blackburn Park is located back behind there.

Went here just the other day and the whole palce has new gates and fences and big official signs that say "Lumpkin County Propert No Tresspassing"
The only place to park would have been in an elementary school and that's really suspicious and I didn't want to hop fences with my kids in tow so we left.

Clearly closed. Gated, fenced and official signs that say "Lumpkin County Property. No Trespassing". There no place to park nearby either, except an elementary school which is suspicious as hell nowadays. There a road that looks recently groomed from the road. I was with my kids so I didn't go in.

If there was a substantial amount of support in the area for another Mountain Bike Trail then Blackburn would be the place for it. The land is abundant and it is just sitting there, unused, this is a tragedy. I would love to see this former park get developed into trails and a nice park for the community.

    Reviewing Pioneer Trail:

This is the only half-ways decent section of trail left in Blackburn Park, but it definitely isn't long enough to justify traveling to. If you live in the area and are bored, then sure, check this out. Otherwise, just head out to bull mountain.

These really aren't worth the effort. If you live in the area and want to ride them, sure. But if you're actually looking for a gravel road ride, head out towards the national forest.

I really do hope that this area is opened to trail development because at the present time, it is really not worth riding with Bull Mountain right down the road.
