Mountain Biking Bearskin State Trail

***   Add a review
#163 of 387 mountain bike trails in Wisconsin
#7,568 in the world

Level, compacted granite surface with abundant shade makes the trail a pleasant, easy ride through the north woods. You can find a few single tracks leading off the main trail closer to Blue Lake and the town of Minocqua. Bearskin trail is shared by joggers, walkers and cyclists of all types. In the winter it functions as snow mobile track. Excellent for getting distance in the safety of the woods with subtle rolling hills along the way. The farther south you ride, the more remote and quite the trail becomes.

This is in no way singletrack. It's gravel multi use trail for hikers and bikers in spring, fall, and summer and snowmobiles in winter. I could have taken my road bike on this its that smooth. I guess it has nice lake views and access to some restaurants if you ride far enough. Walkers don't care for bikers and have a hard time saying hi, and there is a trail fee. Also it doesn't have singletrack off of it, they are trails from peoples houses and cabins getting to the trail across private property.

This is not a technical MTB trail, just a nice, wide, retired railroad track converted into multi-use trail. Smooth gravel the full 18 mile length with minimal intersections with roads which makes it great if you want to get some miles and pretty views. Quite peaceful and beautiful and more secluded as you rollout farther from Minocqua. I've spied a few trails that lead off from it, but haven't dipped in yet. Along the way you'll have access to eateries, bathrooms, and scenic rest spots for picnics etc.
