Trail Description
About this trail
This is a simple loop. 3 miles up the dirt road to Baker Tank. Turn left onto the singletrack and follow it three miles back to the parking lot. The grade of the gravel road is very slight and the only really steep part will be at the beginning of the singletrack. After that, it's mostly level and roller coaster before dropping sharply back to the start. The singletrack portion is well covered and at altitude, so it usually doesn't dry out until mid-late June. It is also very rooty, demanding caution when wet.

Review: While a pretty fun downhill rip and there's some good singletrack connecting to it, I was a bit underwhelmed by Baker Tank itself. Decent, but not great.

Review: The Baker Tank Trail itself is not a loop. It starts on Boreas Pass Road and heads down hill towards Breckenridge. It is littered with roots and rocks from the junction of the Mountain Pride track - most of the way. They aren't nasty rocks or roots but they make for a bumpy ride and the trail has no redeeming features - it's pretty much a waste of brake pad going down. It's two way, popular with walkers, and within pine forest after you get started. It ends further down Boreas Pass Road where Aspen Alley starts and that's a brilliant trail that will take you further down towards town. There is a free, half-hourly, bike-carrying bus from the Breckenridge bus station up into the general area of the pass. And there is a "Bike Guide" available from the information center on Main Street.

Review: I always have fun on this one! I ride it from town which allows me to ride the lower "mining" portion across the street from the end of this ride. If you finish this ride at the parking lot, start to ride back up Boreas Rd about 40 or 50 meters and you'll see a trail going off to the right. There's a quick steep descent and then you head to the right. This single track trail is steep and fun and will take you through some really cool old mining ruins. Stay to the right and you'll end up back on the road back to town. This road will bring you right back down past the ice rink and the train park/museum. Without doing this lower part, I would rate the upper part 3.5 :)

Similar Trail: Some east Texas trails...or trails outside of Ruston, LA.

Review: Haven't ridden this trail in about 5 years. We found it really getting "rooty" and rocky now. Too bumpy for our tastes. Gotten rougher over the years likely from use and snow erosion.
Sorry to say we've crossed this one "off" our Breck list for now.

Similar Trail: Peak trail has rocky/rooty spots too

Review: Beautiful ride up Boreas Pass. Though can run into vehicles. Ride up to and on trail is very nice! It is just past the water tower and up the hill to your left. then ride around the corner and back down to the road. There is a trail across the road continuing down horse trails to lower Boreas road.

Similar Trail: There are other trails around this area. Similar mining / horse trails. Explore!

Review: Fun quick little trail. Ride up Boreas some and catch some pretty fast singletrack back down. Standard Breck riding

Review: I was surprised to see this one was not yet in the database--it may well be Breck's best quickie. Be sure to ignore the first singletrack you see on the left and go all the way to Baker Tank before turning. This is a route that makes you really feel like you're getting some downhill bang for your climbing buck. Despite the altitude (10.4 - 11K ft), you don't need a third lung to pull this one off. The three mile climb up Boreas Pass Road will go by quickly as the grade is very mellow and the scenery is beyond spectacular. The beginning of the singletrack will suck some wind out of you, but after that it's easy going for a while and then downhill. Much of this singletrack is so rooty, you would think you're back East if you had more oxygen. The steep part of the downhill is also rather rocky making for a supremely fun mile.

If you want more mileage, this trail lends itself well to doing multiple laps. You can also pedal up from town for more vertical using a combination of roads and other singletrack.
