For $849, this bike works really well for most of your single track needs. I am 6' 2" and went with a medium frame. I did remove a spacer on the stem to help give me a more comfortable stance on the bike, though.
Pros * Great bang for the buck
* Climbs really well
Cons * Rear derailer is not the best. Need to constantly keep it lubed to help shit between the gears
I paid ~$700 for this bike at Perf Bikes. List price is somewhere around $1,699.
Looking for a hardtail? Don't want to be an idiot? Buy this billygoat.
Pros Fork is durable
Lightweight
Mid-range components
Great Climber
Decent descent, make sure to get your weight back.
Beautiful, simplistic asthetics
FRAME IS SUPER DURABLE
Cons Stock Maxxis tires need to go before riding.
Charge grips were a bit to harsh for my liking.
Brakes need constant adjustment
RD is pretty clunky
Upgraded from a 2008 Trek 4300 and I'm never looking back. I am 6'2" and I'm riding a medium framed bike as i found it pretty comfortable still to whip around.
If you can find this bike for the 800-900$ price point performance bike shop offers, get it!
Pros -Consistent and powerful hydraulic brakes.
-Fork can handle solid downhill greens and blue trails.
-Wide handle bars for easy control
-29er tires roll over everything you come across
Cons -Rear de-railer requires lots of upkeep to keep shifting properly, regular oil and cleaning keeps it working fine.
I'd get one if you can find one. The philly store has a few on the floor even though on line it's no longer listed.
Pros Was a great price! I wanted a Zaskar and couldn't pass this up. It's really good off road goes over rocks, roots and log overs awesomely!
Looks nice too!
Breaks are powerful. Bike feels fast
Seat is comfy.
I'm 6'1" and the Large fits me great!
Cons the handle bars are really wide. Coming from a 26er made it harder to balance at 1st.
It is a bit heavier than the Zaskar I tested.
If you can buy this on the 47% off Performance deal, it is well worth it if you are looking for an economical hardtail 29er. I bought the XL size, I'm 6':4", and it fits well. My nephew, who is 6'6" tried it and was just a bit too small.
Pros -Bought this bike for 47% off and double points at Performance Bike (that's an additional $180 back to you!), making it a smoking deal for a decently equipped 29er hardtail.
-SLX brakes and comments work perfectly.
-The seat is surprisingly comfortable for a manufacturer branded seat.
Cons -Not the lightest hardtail out there.
-Seat doesn't always stay in position on the seatpost.
-Wish it had a thru-axle fork (although the The TK Gold fork works well).
