The biggest freeride mountain bike event of the year was canceled due to inclement weather. High winds led Rampage organizers to pull the plug on the men’s finals today after only nine riders dropped.
In an Instagram post, freeride athlete and Red Bull Rampage competitor Tom van Steenbergen shared his disappointment with the cancellation:
Never felt better going into an event in my life. I truly felt like this was my year. To never find out what would have happened is going to eat me alive. But we live to fight another day.
I’m so sorry to everyone who followed along the journey. I’m as disappointed as you are 💔
Van Steenbergen was among the eight riders who didn’t get an opportunity to drop.
Of the nine riders to take a first run, Carson Storch suffered a massive crash and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, Storch was cleared and returned to the event. Paul Couderc also suffered a first-run crash after coming up short on a front flip.
Szymon Godziek scored a 90.00 on his first run, putting him in first by a good margin. However, because not every rider had an opportunity to take a first run, 2026 will not have a men’s Red Bull Rampage champion.
At the women’s event on Thursday, Robin Goomes defended her Rampage title, with Hannah Bergemann in second and Kristen Van Horne in third.
