The Australian state of Tasmanian has recently invested about $4.5M ($3.5M USD) in building 100km of new mountain bike trails across two trail networks, Hollybank and Blue Derby. The idea behind this project, like many others, is to increase tourism to the area and judging by the photos I’ve seen online, I’m ready to book my flight!

The Tasmanian government has already committed to spending another $1.7M on trails in the state.

The first trails at Blue Derby are set to open Saturday while some of the other projects won’t be complete until 2017. Be sure to read more about the growing MTB tourism in Tasmania and drool over the photos in this trip report.
