Hi, looking for advice on where to ride in Scottsdale Arizona……I’d consider myself to be intermediate to advanced and would like a challenging and scenic ride. Also looking for advice on where to rent a Mountain Bike for the week. thanks

The best place to go ride in the metro Phoenix is South Mountain which interestingly enough is on the south side of Phoenix. Check out the National Trail which most people think is the creme de la creme of Phoenix. I have not been there yet, but the Gold Canyon area east of town is supposed to have some challenging terrain as well. As far as Scottsdale goes, you basically have Browns Ranch and the McDowell’s. There are a *few* challenging trails there but they are mostly lower intermediate. Check out the Black Canyon Trail which has several sections to choose from to theNorthwest of Scottsdale. There’s always Sedona which is close enough for a day trip and has ll the challenge you could possible ask for.

I would look into Browns Ranch, located in North Scottsdale. Many many miles of great flowy trails with connectors for whatever distance you are looking to go. Another would be the backside of McDowell Mountain with can be connected to from Browns Ranch if looking for a long ride.

East of Scottsdale is the Hawes system and the Usery Mountains system. The Hawes is a lot of fun with a lot of intermediate riding. The Usery Mountain trails are mostly fast beginner trails but with a lot of flow and fun. But there is one exception to the Usery Mountain trails you shouldn’t miss. That is Pass Mountain. It is an 8 mile trail and worth anybody’s time. Awesome trail. Check out the reviews on the singletrack’s website. I did about 10 rides in the Phoenix area a year ago. Pass Mountain was definitely my favorite.
