Maybe I am bored but I was toying with the idea of how would you design a bike to fit the needs for the poor of this world. Let them be from a rural setting or a city. The US, Africa, or another far off place. What traits would the bike have. I am thinking something that is durable, easy to maintain and could fit the roll as a cummuter to get someone to work or pedalling goods to the market.
My vision would be either a steel or aluminium bike, single speed, either cantalaver or coaster brake, top tube slanted to reduce the stand over height. maybe a built in rear rack and either a front rack or basket. Tire width would be around 2" but not sure if it would be a 26, 29, 650? Maybe a frame that could handle any of those incase a wheel had to be replaced. How would you do it?
