Pembree Launches Eco-Friendly Flat MTB Pedals with 5-year Warranty

Pembree is a new UK brand offering sustainable, premium quality products. Their first product is the R1V, a flat pedal for mountain biking.

A new brand called Pembree launches today with a focus on “sustainable high-end components made in the UK.” The company, helmed by Phil Law, announced its first product with a set of flat pedals called R1V.

Designed to withstand years of abuse, the pedal is not light at 312g each, so Pembree positions the R1V as a good option for e-bikes, but also freeride and enduro riding. Like many UK-based MTB brands, Pembree appears focused on designing gear that can withstand riding in wet and challenging conditions. The pedals are priced at a premium — £199 (about $217USD) — and are available directly at pembree.com.

The PEMBREE R1V elevates the flat pedal to a whole new level of quality and durability. Wherever you ride, you’ll get there with the confidence of a pedal designed and manufactured by PEMBREE. The replaceable traction rails and pins combined with the concave pedal body provide unrivaled grip and support for the rider.

The SKF sealed ball and needle bearings will provide many years of maintenance free riding, coupled with a dedicated spindle seal which will keep even the worst of the winters out. Each pedal has two ball bearings and one needle bearing. All traction pins, bolts and nuts as well as the spindle are stainless steel providing strength and corrosion resistance. The replaceable traction rails and pins are available to purchase on the PEMBREE website.

To ensure the pedals and future products from Pembree are eco-friendly, the company has partnered with TEMWA to help balance their carbon footprint. In addition, the brand offers a 10% discount on purchases for buyers who send in old pedals to be recycled. Perhaps the biggest opportunity for sustainability is the company’s focus on creating gear that doesn’t need to be replaced as often. Along those lines, offering repair parts for purchase helps to further extend the life of the R1V pedals.

Pembree is said to be working on a lighter-weight pair of pedals to follow the R1V, with a similar 5-year warranty.
