Mountain biking is an expensive sport so we’ve hand-selected more than a dozen products under $100 worth getting for yourself or gifting another mountain biker this year.
TranzX Skyline Dropper Seat Post
It is great that purchasing a dropper post for a bike is no longer a significant expense. Both the Kitsuma Air and Skyline dropper posts offer excellent value for the money. While the Skyline is only available in a 125mm stroke length, the Kitsuma Air offers a range of post lengths to fit bikes and riders of all sizes. Similarly, the weight and insertion length of the post is close to that of established competitors, which coupled with its two-year warranty, makes me question the need to buy a dropper post at two or three times the price.
Niterider Lumina 1200 Boost
Easy on and off handlebar mounted headlight. This 1200 lumen light can light up the trail on its own or be used as a second light source. Either way, for $100 this light is small enough to keep in your pack in case your after-work ride takes longer than expected.
Club Ride Shaka Flannel
Fall is flannel season, and Club Ride offers the Shaka Flannel in three stylish colors. Sure, you could grab that old flannel from your closet and hit the trail, but Club Ride did the hard work and created a bike-specific flannel with moisture-wicking poly spandex threads to keep you nice and warm on those icy cold rides. Notable features such as reflective Club Ride logos and the hidden sunglass wipe make this $89.95 flannel the go-to for just about any cool weather adventure your heart desires. Add one to your wardrobe or start giving Santa some hints!
Thule Rail Hip Pack
The Thule Rail 2 is the perfect lunch or after-work ride pack. With holsters for two bottles, outer sleeves for snacks, a media pocket and room inside for tools, the Rail is compact, but has room for all the essentials. The Rail has a tough exterior that will hold up to abuse, but a sleek and simple look.

Garmin Forerunner 35
$169.99 | $98.99 sale

Use the Garmin Connect app to access key training stats like resting heart rate, VO2 max, heart rate training zones, sleep quality and more. The small screen can also display weather and text notifications if your phone is inaccessible in your pocket or pack while riding.
Zoic Navaeh Print Short
Zoic takes things a fun step forward using funky patterns paired with classic neutrals in their latest women’s collection. At first glance, the patterns are eye-catching and quirky, and by offering these in their classic Navaeh short, riders have the ability to mix patterns, add a splash of flair, or fully kit themselves out.
Bontrager BITS Integrated MTB Tool
Who wants to wear a sweaty bag when everything you need for a ride can go on the frame? Bontrager has added a sweet steerer mounted multi-tool and chain breaker to their lineup that doesn’t require any fancy threading tools to install. With 2-8mm hex keys, a T25 driver and flathead screw driver built in, all that’s left to remember is a pump and tube. Note that this system does not work with ovalized internal tubes like that on the new Fox 38, but all other forks should work great!
Pearl Izumi Summit Shell
The Summit Shell Jacket is definitely a multisport piece of apparel that can be worn for other outdoor adventures like hiking, jogging, or running errands. It is lightweight, water-resistant, and packs into its own envelope pocket. If you like to always be prepared out on the trails, this storable jacket is your ‘just in case’ essential garment to carry.
Nukeproof ARD Tire Inserts
$69.99 | $38.99 sale
No matter how thick and heavy our tires may be, some trail require tire inserts to be ridden at speed. The Nukeproof ARD inserts are far less expensive than most of the competition, and they’ve saved my rims from countless fanged rocks poor line choices. They are about as easy to install as a flat foam insert, while offering thicker protection so you can push the bike harder into the trail ahead. Rims and tires can be expensive, and the ARD insert is a sweet bit of added insurance.

The third generation SDG Bel-Air has been updated to reflect progressive mountain bike geometry with a shorter overall length and a slight rear rise for support when it’s time to lay down the watts. Designed for comfort with a descent-friendly shape, SDG recommends the Bel-Air for everything from XC to enduro.
Endura Humvee Pant II
A durable and affordable mountain biking pant with a DWR finish in case you’re caught in a sprinkle. While these pants aren’t insulated for extreme winter temps, the coverage could extend your riding season as well as guard against brush and trail overgrowth.
Velocio Zero+ Glove
Velocio has updated this winter glove for 2020. Just last winter Matt found these gloves to strike a great balance between warmth and dexterity while being suitable for riding in temperatures from the low 30s to low 40s.

Panaracer Gravel King SS+
Cornering grip on these tires is better than that of a road tread, but it’s definitely intended for sunshine riding. On dry hard pack, the cut-in cornering grooves grip little stones quite well, and they seem to hold on better than a road tire if you need to feather the brakes mid-turn. Panaracer has a wide variety of gravel tires for gravel enthusiasts who want additional corner tread, and these are one of their lowest and lightest offerings.
Cotopaxi Teca Fleece
Cotopaxi’s use of bright colors is eye catching, but this is not your average fleece. The Teca fleece is made by repurposing remnant fabric scraps, saving it from landfills and bypassing the need for new materials manufacturing. The brand isn’t just stuffing their recycled polyester pockets with profits though, a percentage of their revenue goes towards the Cotopaxi Foundation’s efforts to alleviate global poverty. Don the energizing colors of this fleece pre- or post- ride and feel warm and fuzzy (literally!) for making a sustainable choice. Both men’s and women’s styles available.
