My frame is large powder coated black color. Perfect fit for me. I think I have put the most miles on that bike already right there in the parking lot. Thank goodness for the last vestage of blue laws – no Sunday hunting in VA and some other points south of here. Can’t see any biological reason for it, but otherwise I would pretty much have to give up National Forest riding in hunting season.

Mill Mountain trails don’t have a single trailhead. Best place for non-local to access is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway coming from 220. Go North on Parkway and take a left onto Fishburn Parkway (towards campground and zoo). Follow Fishburn Parkway to turnoff at Mill Mountain Zoo. At that turnoff is room for about 3 cars to park. Monument trail starts right behind the monument. On the other side of the road trails go off in at least 3 directions. Best to just explore or go with a local (PM me if in town during the week after 5). Trails are marked but not signed – some kind of jurisdiction issue between the city and National Park Service since the trails cross both boundaries. Most trails are open to bikes. The Star Trail and Chestnut Ridge Trail are not open to bikes – but both are signed and marked as closed to bikes. The Chestnut Ridge trail is currently under review by the NPS for bike use, but no word yet. It is a 5 1/2 mile IMBA designed loop around Roanoke Mountain campground.
