Listen, I’m not here to convince you that you need a mountain bike fit. If you really need one, your body will make it abundantly clear. Still, finding a bike fitter nearby isn’t always easy, and the cost can be prohibitive for some.

Had my first bike fit due to having lower back pain on long rides. And damn...the dude fixed it. Said I was close, but ended up with two major changes. Cutting the bars down and lowering the seat more than suggested. Been riding with it for over a month and I have no pain and feel more comfortable.

Also, this was done at my local bike shop, where we had a group of people have a fit done so the cost was half of what a normal fit would cost.

I did when I first bought my MTB. But now I've converted it to a trail bike, with comfort seat, handle bars 3" taller, and wrist-supporting grips. I would like my comfort seat further back, but angle doesn't allow -- so not perfect but probably good enough for 50 rides a year.

I've had pre purchase fitd when trying to decide between two rigs, then finish it off with a true fit once purchase is made. Went decades without getting a pro fit, but after the first one really nailed my position, and fixed a couple of small annoying issues, was hooked

When I was in the bike business, I specialized in custom fit, and adaptive cycling. I see so many people, particularly small women, on bikes that don't fit. Cranks too long, handlebars too wide, and brake levers they cannot reach--even on women specific bikes. I would like to see more shop sales people be trained in proper bike fit, so riders can go out the door with a bike that serves them.

I always thought there was very little adjustments available for mountain bikes. You can change the stem length but the rest of the bike fit was decided by the manufacturer. Road/gravel has much more options for variability where tiny changes in seat position make huge differences.

Seat fore/aft, Seat height, bar height, bar rise, bar roll, cleat position, crank length, stem length, bar width, cockpit angle...etc...

And I don't know how many people understand just how much adjustments can be made. The road bike industry understands this (except for one piece handlebar/stems). Everyone talks about frame geometry but not how to personalize it.
