Located smack between of Edinburg and Glasgow Scotland, the apparel designers at Endura have some of the world’s best testing grounds for waterproof gear right off their doorstep. The brand has been making high quality rain riding gear for a while now and they decided to involve all three of the Athertons in this fourth generation of the MT500 waterproof kit.
MT500 Jacket
This latest iteration of the MT500 Jacket comes in a women’s and men’s cut using their ExoShell40DR fabric to keep the water out. Enduro says that all of the new kit is manufactured with the environment in mind, removing harmful substances from the production process. That includes a PFC-free DWR treatment throughout.
Pockets on either side of the torso double as long mesh vents, and alongside the equally lengthy vents under the arms there’s no shortage of ventilation in this shell. The hood is large enough to fit over a half shell helmet, and can be cinched tight to wear it directly against your head. The bill of the hood has a broad reflective strip, as does the dropped tail, making this a suitable piece for commuting around town. Finally, Endura added a small bike park touch with the zippered lift-pass pocket on the left wrist.
I wore the MT500 jacket to the recent EWS event in Switzerland, and I was stoked to have this warm layer against the frigid alpine rain. The shell feels heavy, with a clear focus on durability compared to more packable rain gear. I’ll have a full review of the MT500 jacket after a few months of testing, and the initial fit and functional impressions are all positive. It has a slimmer cut, and maintains plenty of space for movement and layering.

MT500 Trousers and Shorts
The updated MT500 shorts and trousers share the same three-layer, seam-sealed fabric that the jacket uses, with water-resistant pockets to keep your gear as dry as possible. Both are kneepad prepped, and the pants have zippered thigh vents and zippers at the ankle to allow you to put them on over your shoes if you mess up the order of things a little.
With this head-to-toe waterproof kit you can ride in the slop, then slide it off and hop in the car or bar relatively clean. The shorts retail for €119.99/$139.99 and the trousers go for €219.99/$249.99. If you really love to ride in the rain, there is another level.
