I know people have passion for new tech, but has anyone written an article in Singletrack on the environmental impact of more bikes, more unused “obsolete” bikes, and the continued quest for lighter and more efficient steeds?
At least someone read the comment. As a mining geologist bumper sticker reads: Earth First! We’ll mine other planets later.
Oh well…
Haha, I got ya. Definitely pros and cons with product life cycles, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a bit, especially with e-bikes, considering the minerals that need to be harvested for batteries.
Not that this makes it better, but I’m sure the push for EVs is having a much greater impact than product cycles for mountain bikes. But I’m all ears and always looking for sources and stories if ya want to chat!
I have a 2015 hardtail, 2016 full suspension MTB, and 2016 road bike. I don’t plan trading them any time soon. Unfortunately for momma Earth, I have friends who have had 2-5 bikes during that same time.
