Giant’s affordable, capable trail bike the Stance has been updated for 2019.
The previous generation was offered at two price points, $1,530 and $2,145. It seems that Giant has simplified their build offerings for this year with only the Stance 1 available at $1,700.
That price gets buyers an aluminum-framed, 120mm, full-suspension bike with modern geometry.
The build includes a Rockshox Recon fork and Monarch R shock, tubeless Maxxis Ardent 2.4-inch tires front and back, a Giant Contact dropper post, Shimano Deore drivetrain, and Shimano BR-MT200 brakes.
Looking closely though, there are still some relics of past technology; the Stance 1 is specced with a front derailleur and a 2×10 drivetrain. With 1×11 and 1×12 drivetrains as affordable as they are these days, the dual-chainring Stance is still going to be a very reasonable option for new mountain bikers, or an affordable second bike for others.
The geometry has however been dosed with modernity. The angles put the bike at a 67.5-degree head angle and a 74-degree effective seat angle. The rear triangle is kept relatively short at 435mm as well.

The mountain bike market seems to have more affordable options lately, which suggests that at least some brands are open to lowering the barrier of entry to the sport. Similarly, Marin offers their 120mm, full-suspension trail bike, the Hawk Hill for just under $2,000 with a comparable component package.
The Stance 1 is available now, and those that are interested can purchase the bike online and pick it up at their closest dealer.
Can we all finally agree that modern bikes are getting crazy cheap? A solid component spec including a dropper for $1700 is a great deal on a hardtail, let alone a full suspension. I convinced a new cyclist at work to get a timberjack for his first mountain bike, but I think this is a way better deal.
Looks like a solid entry level bike. Wish they’d gone 1×11 instead, though.
Just bought my Giant Anthem 2 for 2245.00 in March. The stance was not even close in my book. Now it appears to have almost the same component package, at $1700.00. Is Apple running the company??????
Got mine last week and so far I love it! Going to eventually switch it to a 1x but the 2x is working fine for now
