In 2021, we asked Singletracks readers if electronic drivetrains were a game-changer or a gimmick, and 87% said it was more than just a gimmick. Just two years later, 44% of readers reported they had an electronic drivetrain on one of their mountain bikes; the next year, that percentage was up to 51% — a slim majority, but a majority nonetheless.
Still, 34% of you said you had no interest in electronic shifting. Now, a year and a half since our last survey on the topic, we want to know what, if anything, has changed!
Tell us why you have/haven’t adopted electronic shifting on your mountain bike(s) in the comments below.

2. I ride with a kids ride shotgun copilot, having buttons within her reach is a recipe for disaster
3. I’ve forgotten tools, gloves, water and helmets going to a ride, I’d forget batteries too.

2. $1000+ for shifter and derailleur (XTR) that l'd much rather keep in my pocket, spend elsewhere or on travel to ride somewhere awesome
3. I've given all my buddies with AXS so much crap for so long about wireless that I have painted myself into a corner and couldn't switch even if I wanted to :)

The upsides…crisp shifting under load on basically any climb is flawless, the microshift fixes almost any shifting issue and the rebuildable derailleur/lack of bendable hanger is pretty great. For folks objecting to the battery, Eagle 70/90 is supposedly similar, but I haven’t had the opportunity to give that a spin yet.

Currently building up a fresh park bike and it's going to have mechanical as is my new 'gravel' bike. So I guess what I'm saying is I'm kinda over electronic shifting.
That said, I'm fully onboard with the move toward electronic droppers.

I have Di2 on one of my road bikes, but I don't enjoy it either and wish their was a viable top tier group set without electronics.

I wonder if electronic shifting wouldn't be so widely adopted if the industry had maxed out at 10 or 11 speeds.

With cable shifters I never got consistent shifts throughout the entire 12 speed cassette. How to resort to inline barrel adjusters so I could adjust while riding.
Sram app has “micro adjust” so you can fine tune the shifting for perfect shifts.
Never going back.
I carry an extra battery (even though I really don’t have to). Not a big deal.
If you have an AXS dropper post, it uses the same battery.
