I have a 2016 Stumpjumper with the stock 29mm internal width rims.  Stock tires were 29 x 2.3.  I put 29 x 2.6 tires on they fit the rims well and feel great on trail running pressure in the low 20’s.  FYI specialized is fitting the new stumpjumper with 2.6″ tires on 29mm and 30mm rims.
