I doubt it’s the cables. I’ve seen bikes like yours with derailleurs that have tensioner springs so weak & adjuster barrels so loose it would be impossible to adjust. Not only that, but they’re put together by stock-boy/girl monkeys, not experienced wrenches.

Thanks for the info. I am sure it’s cause its a cheapo bike, but its just a beginner, all in due time. I may have Dick’s look it over since it’s free, and if they can’t do anything about it there’s a good LBS around my way that could.
It’s been raining for 3 days straight and its finally supposed to clear up on Saturday, so I can’t wait to get out riding on Sunday, try and let the trails dry at least a little.
