We’re stoked whenever we hear news about bikes gaining access to trails, and this news sounds particularly sweet. The Waihaha Hut Track in the Pureora Forest Park (New Zealand) had been hiking-only, but thanks to trail work completed by advocacy group Bike Taupo, the 9km out-and-back trail is officially open to mountain bikers.

The trail starts at the Waihaha River, following the river and ending at the Waihaha Hut, which sleeps up to 10 people. According to Great Lake Taupo, the trail is rated “grade 4, meaning it still has some difficult sections where riders will need to carry their bikes, but overall it is considered to be suitable for riders of most skill levels and fitness.”

Time to start planning that bikepacking trip along the Great Lake Trail in Taupo!
