You need to be fit because they are the old fashioned style of trail that surrender altitude rather too easily resulting is a lot of climbing back up! But you'll be smiling all the way...

From Hastings or Napier head north on State Highway 2. At the fork take SH5 towards Taupo. Watch out for Waipunga Road on the right just after Eskdale. It's 5.5 km from the SH5 turnoff. The car park is on the right less than one kilometre up Waipunga Road.
