Mountain Biking Vashlovani National Park Adventure Loop

  Add a review
#2 of 2 mountain bike trails in Middle East
#37,707 in the world

Vashlovani National Park offers one of the most surreal, remote, and visually stunning mountain biking experiences in the entire Caucasus. Completely contrasting the lush green alpine meadows of northern Georgia, Vashlovani is a wild semi-desert frontier filled with massive clay canyons, ancient pistachio savannas, sharp eroded badlands, and unique mud volcanoes running right along the border with Azerbaijan.

The riding consists of fast, rolling dirt tracks, sweeping steppe singletracks, and natural doubletracks running through the dry floors of deep desert canyons flanked by towering jagged walls. Key highlights include the breathtaking views over the winding Alazani River valley and the otherworldly landscapes of the Takhti-Tepha mud volcanoes.

Important Logistics & Safety: Due to extreme summer heat, the prime riding windows are limited to Spring (April–May) and Autumn (September–November). Because the park is a strict border zone, military permits and border guard clearances are non-negotiable. Additionally, large, highly protective Caucasian Shepherd dogs guard seasonal livestock herds here—riding in a disciplined group is highly advised.

For hassle-free logistics, pre-arranged border passes, 4x4 vehicle support, and premium bike rentals, you can check out the fully organized expedition on the ShredGeorgia Vashlovani MTB Tour page.

Getting there
From Tbilisi, drive east to the town of Dedoplistskaro (approx. 2.5–3 hours). You must first stop at the Vashlovani Protected Areas Visitor Center in Dedoplistskaro to register and get your park permits. From the visitor center, head south toward Kasristskhali along the dirt roads to enter the national park. A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is required to reach the actual canyon trailheads (like Pantishara Canyon), where the riding tracks begin.
